Gravitational to Coulomb force ratio and the origin of galactic magnetic fields
Juan Racker
The origin of the seeds of galactic magnetic fields is a subject that remains under debate. In this talk we will present a mechanism for generating seeds based on tiny charge asymmetries in slowly rotating protogalaxies. Using current knowledge of galaxy formation and evolution we estimate that a charge imbalance of 1 every 10^(38±5) charge carriers in slowly rotating protogalaxies can provide adequate seeds for the galactic dynamos. Intriguingly, the gravitationally-induced charge of a protogalaxy in hydrostatic equilibrium lies within the upper range of the required charge imbalance.
