Walls in the Local Universe

Maria Antonela Taverna

One of the primary challenges in the study of large-scale structure is accurately identifying the structures that form the cosmic web in observational surveys. Detecting cosmological walls, in particular, is especially difficult due to their low density. In this work, we apply a combination of two complementary algorithms to identify walls: a multiscale morphology filter based on the Hessian matrix, and the topology-based SpineWeb finder. In this work, we apply these methods to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to present a catalogue of cosmological walls in the local universe. Additionally, we present our first results connecting wall properties with the galaxies within them, with the aim of studying the impact of environmental processes.
